How has a year come and gone already?! You blink and your sweet newborn is turning one! As a new mom or even an experienced mom, it can be difficult to know what to get your baby for their first birthday. You can find an ultimate guide to first birthday gift ideas here.
In this day and age of social media it is so easy to get overwhelmed and stressed about having the perfect birthday bash and a ton of gifts. You see the big fancy parties, but please know that is not what your baby expects! Actually, they don’t even know it’s their birthday. This celebration is for you as much as it is for them.
I’m getting ready to purchase birthday gifts for my *almost* one year old. I have curated this list of items that we have already and she loves or items that we have on our list!
You aren’t required to spend a ton of money on gifts if you don’t have the means. You can even use their first birthday gifts as a way to give them things that are needed such as clothes, bath supplies, or their favorite snacks.

First Birthday Gift Ideas
- We have this phone and my kids love it! It’s a toy that can grow with them, because even my oldest likes to play with it!
- A water table is a must have for the summer time! We have this water table and it has lasted years, my kids still love playing with it.
- This push car is on our list to get our baby! This is the perfect gift to get your baby to encourage outside time. We love going on walks or to the park, so this will be a perfect addition to our house!
- We have this activity table, we got it for our oldest when she was 1 and all 3 of our kids love to use it now.
- Our baby got this piano for Christmas and plays with it nonstop! It has been a huge hit.
- I got this school bus for my middle child on her first birthday and it’s a big hit. We love little people because there aren’t little pieces which is a must have for anxious moms!
- This vacuum cleaner was given to my oldest for her first Christmas and we still have it. So it has lasted years! And you know fisher price has great music, so these songs are bangers.
- Stacking cups are a great way to help your baby with their development.
- This purse set is the perfect my first purse for babies. It’s from fisher price and my kids love it!
- Activity cubes are a great educational toy. And this one comes with the shape sorter!
- The cause and effect toy from Battat is a great development toy! I remember having something similar to this growing up and loved it.
- Fisher price sit and steer driving toy– we got my baby this toy for Christmas and she loves it! It is smaller than I originally expected, but is so fun! Even my older kids like to play with the it and pretend they’re driving.
- Fisher price cruise along scooter– my almost one year old loves riding toys. We spend so much time pushing her around on ride along toys!
- A walker. Some babies will be walking independently before one, but some won’t be! This is a great gift to let them play with the walker and also gain confidence walking with the walker.
- Fisher Price little people farm– we got this toy for our oldest for her second Christmas and it has been a well loved toy ever since. I highly recommend this toy!
16. Little Tikes rocking horse– my mom has this at her house for the grandkids and it is a favorite of everyone’s. My baby loves it and so does my 5 year old niece! It is definitely a gift that will last a while.
17. Mega Blocks are a wonderful toy to help teach your baby how to build. We use ours to build chairs for our baby dolls and stuffed animals.
18. Mickey Mouse birthday book, we are huge Mickey fans in our house so this book is on our list for the baby!
19. Another one year old birthday book, this one I got for my niece years ago and she loved it!
20. Vtech walker– this is a standard walker very similar to the one I have. If you want one that isn’t double sided this is a great option!
21. Stacking rings and shape sorters– these are great for developing gross motor skills and learning shapes.

23. Vtech walking puppy– this is another gift we got for my oldest’s first Christmas and my kids still play with it.
24. This bulldozer looks like so much fun and is on my list for my baby! it’s great to help her learn how to walk and I think she’ll love the balls popping out.
25. Leap frog picnic basket– we have so many shape sorting toys in our house but I love educational toys. This is another good option!
26. Feed the Fish toy– this is another toy on our list of gifts to get our baby. We have friends that have this toy and she loves playing with it at their house!
27. Balance Bike– has 4 wheels so more stable for a 1 year old!
29. Vtech activity cube– this is the cube we have (and we have had it since our oldest was less than a year!) it’s a huge hit.
30. Step 2 roller coaster– so technically this toy is for age 1.5 and up, but we have this and let our baby use it with adult supervision. She loves it and we hold onto her hands on the handles to make sure she stays safe and doesn’t fall.
